Dont Keep Your Head Down!!

One of the most common statements made from one golfer to another is you picked your head up, or you have to keep your head down.  The reason people most often say these words in because a player has topped a ball and is not making solid contact.  There are many reasons why that could happen and most often has nothing to do with what the head is doing through impact.  So these words could be one of the most damaging things that a golfer could hear.  The reason is that by keeping your head down you end up limiting your ability to rotate through the golf ball causing a number of other issues that could than follow.

With keeping your head down as I have mentioned already it makes it much more difficult to rotate through the ball, this issue could cause a player to steepen the club in order to try and get the clubface to hit the ball straight and could lead to a golfing career of fighting a slice.  Another thing that could potentially happen is if the player still brings the club from a shallow angle the player will then have to time the impact with the golf ball with the rotation and release of their hands.  This could lead to a shot that hooks too much and also a shot that doesn’t reach it distance potential because of the lack of rotation and added loft to the club head.

My advice to you is let your head move freely through the downswing into the finish.  Many great golfers were rotating their head prior to collision with the golf ball even occurred.  They did this because they realized the advantages of rotating and how that could create consistency.  The reason why rotating your head and body is advantageous is for the fact that the rotation of the body stabilizes the rotation of the club face through impact.  This means that you will have a more predictable ball flight time after time, which will lead to lower scores and more enjoyment of the game.

If you are a player that has the tendencies to keep your head down, my advice to you is to hit half shots and get used to the feeling that the head is rotating with the body through impact. You will start to gain a sense of the freedom that rotation will provide leading to better score.

Give It A Try!
